Roger Federer Makes it Four Titles in a Row at Wimbledon - Jul-06
Roger Federer shows why he is still king on grass as he beat Rafael Nadal who was playing in his first Wimbledon Final. The world number one was tested in the final as Nadal has previously beaten Federer in their last four tennis match encounters. Rafael Nadal is in impressive form and is highlighting why he is believed to be his closet rival. Roger Federer won the tennis match six-zero, seven-six, (tie breaker 7-5), six-seven (second tie breaker 2-7) and six-three.
Federer started off at an extreme pace as he sent the bar early. Roger played sublime tennis while Rafael Nadal was still trying to find his feat. The Federer storm led to a six love first set. Where most players would crumble to his credit Nadal fought back with great determination only just losing the second set to a tie breaker. However, his form continued to improve allowing him to break back wining the third set.
The fourth set was a nail biter especially for Federer who feared a possible Nadal comeback. However, the world number ones experienced showed as he won through to a fourth title in two hours fifty minutes.
After this enthralling Wimbledon Final Roger Federer commented that; “It's fantastic, I never thought it was possible but I made it,” “It's an incredible feeling.”
“I was doubting myself early on in the tournament... I guess the draw and the expectation, so to be through all over again and to play against Rafa in the final is fantastic."
When commenting on his four titles and comparison with past tennis hero’s Federer explained;
“They are heroes of the game and this is the most important tournament, so to win four is out of this world,” “I'll come back and try for a fifth.”
Rafael Nadal spoke in high favour of Roger's win;
“I want to congratulate Federer, he played unbelievable,” “This is a difficult surface but I played my best tournament of the year here and that's unbelievable.”
“I hope to come back to this final and win. I improved a lot this year and I'm very happy for that.”
Roger Federer replied; “I want to say it was a great tournament for Rafael, I honestly didn't think he was going to play the finals here this week.”
“That's why I thought Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt were the contenders, so it's a fantastic effort.”
