Mathilde Johansson is originally from Sweden but lives in Boulogne Billancourt in France and competes for her new home country.

Born in Gothenburg on 28th April 1985 to Peter Johansson, a writer and painter, and teacher Christine Johansson she also has a sister Naya who went to college.

She has been coached by Stephanie Charest and has broken into the Top 100 in the world. At the end of the 2012 women's season she was ranked Number 74 in the world.

She won her first ITF tournament at the age of 16 on 1st July 2001 in Algiers on Clay. Two days later she won her second ITF tournament on hard courts in Mont-de-Marsan in France.

Her third win of the year came on October 30th in Mexico City and in November 2006 she won two more tournaments in Mexico City. Victory came in two further tournaments on clay in Cali, Columbia in February 2008 and Petange, Luxembourg in July 2008.

Mathilde Johansson made her WTA Tour debut in the 2005 French Open but lost to the 6th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round.

The following year she reached the second round but lost to the Russian player Maria Kirilenko in straight sets.

She started 2011 by losing in the qualifying competition for the Medibank International in Sydney to Vania King. She played in the main draw of the Australian Open but came up against number 10 seed Shahar Peer in the first round who proved too strong for her.

In February she reached the quarter finals of a $100,000 tournament in California, losing to Alexandra Panova. She played in the Copa BBVA Colsanitas tournament in Bogota beating the Austrian player Yvonne Meusburger to reach the 3rd round.

She took just over an hour to beat her opponent 6-4/6-0 and it is the 4th time Johansson had beaten Meusberger. In this tournament she has already knocked out the 3rd seed Simona Halep in straight sets.
