Serbian player Jelena Jankovic is working with a new coach to try and regain her previous form, after a disastrous 2010 when she only won one title.
In the early part of the year she was working with Ricardo Sanchez, but she crashed out of tournament after tournament, winning only one, at Indian Wells when she beat the current World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the final 6-2/6-4.
One of the toughest and fittest players on the circuit, with defensive abilities and footwork, she can slide effectively on all surfaces. Her worst surface is grass and her best is a fast hard court where she can use her defence and speed.
She slumped to Number 8 in the world having ended 2008 as World Number 1. To try and halt this slump she has hired former Romanian ATP Tour player Andrei Pavel on a trial basis. They have been working together in Serbia and are planning to travel together to Australia ahead of the first Grand Slam of 2011.
She struggled with minor injuries and had to drop out of two tournaments but her ankle injury has now cleared up. She did create history in 2010 at the BNL d'Italia when she thrashed 4th seed Venus Williams 6-0/6-1 with Williams' heaviest loss in her career. Jankovic went on to beat the reigning World Number 1 Serena Williams in the semi-final and she became one of the few women in the history of women's tennis to beat the Williams sisters in the same tournament and the first player to beath them both in less than 24 hours.
After those defeats she should have won the tournament, but suffered a shock defeat by unseeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the final 6-7(5)/5-7.
She used to be sponsored by Reebok but is now with the leading Chinese sportswear ANTA who did a deal with her to exclusively wear their sports apparel, shoes and accessories worldwide. The design team from America and Japan worked closely with her to develop a Jelena Jankovic range of sports products under the JJ brand.
It reflects the style, fashion and beauty of Jankovoc while offering the performance required by one of the top tennis players in the world. ANTA is the first Chinese sports brand to align with a top tennis player. She plays with a Prince 03 Speedport white racket and she is the face of the Serbian fashion design company Mona with her own line of clothing.
Jankovic loves spending money, she also loves fast cars, expensive clothes and her 24 carat Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
She said, "I'm a big spender, I like to swipe my card, I just like doing it, you know the motion."
But she is now splashing out on her most expensive project yet. She is building a 20,000 sq ft, three-level house on a hill in the exclusive San Diego County enclave of Rancho Santa Fe. Despite having homes in Miami and Dubai she wanted to build her "dream home" to her own specifications.
It will come complete with a tennis court, swimming pool, sauna and cinema and a 10-car garage. She is looking forward to it being finished so she can spend time there with her boyfriend Mladjan Janovic.
She has just had a new addition to her family, her brother has given her a Maltese Terrier puppy called Stella.
