Elena Vesnina was born in Lviv, Ukranian SSR in the Soviet Union on August 1st 1986. Her highest World ranking was Number 22 which was achieved on October 12th 2009, and as of 10th January 2011 she is currently ranked Number 53. She now lives in Sochi in Russia and is coached by the former ATP tour player Andrei Chesnokov.

Vesnina is a Russian female tennis player and was hot news in Melbourne in 2011, not because she lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Virginie Razzano of France, but because of an alleged sex tape she features in.

Rumours are flying round Melbourne Park about the tape she is supposed to have made with 24-year-old Russian hockey player Konstantin Korneev. Vesnina has been dating Anastasia Myskina's ex since 2009 and Korneev is reputedly the father of Myskina's child, although she has never named the father.

The tape has hardly rocked the tennis world as they are getting used to the fact with the new generation of sexy young tennis players they are acting naughtier these days.

In October 2002 at the age of 16 years 2 months she gained direct entry into the qualifying draw for her first $10,000 tournament in Giza, Egypt and she qualified for the main draw before losing a close three-set match in the first round.

The following week she went from qualifying at Al Mansoura to reach her first ever quarter final in the main draw but had to default in the match due to injury.

In 2003 she entered two successive ITF events in India at Chennai and Bangalore and qualified for both, reaching the main draw semi final of the first and the main draw quarter final of the other.

These results gave her a World ranking of 750 which meant she got direct entry into a $10,000 tournament in Istanbul where she reached the final. In June 2003 she won her first $10,000 title in Balashikha without dropping a set in the whole tournament.

At the 2009 Wimbledon Championships she caused an upset when she knocked out Number 14 seed Dominika Cibulkova in the 3rd round, having previously beaten Yanina Wickmayer and Vera Dushevina to get there. In the fourth round Venina came up against Elena Dementieva and was knocked out herself.

She ended 2009 with a 34-21 singles record and finished the year ranked World 24. 2010 was not such a good year and she hit a losing streak, just as athletes hit the wall.

She scored the biggest win in her career in the 2010 China Open she defeated Number 12 seed Maria Sharapova in straight sets only to lose to Timea Bacsinszky in the next round.

2011 started well for Vesnina as she was seeded Number 7 in the ASB Classic in Auckland and she easily won her first match against Marina Erakovic and faced Simona Halep in the next round. She was playing well and winning 6-2/4-1 when she started to feel ill and lost the second set. She was 0-4 down in the final set when she had to retire due to dizziness.

She recovered to go on to Hobart where she reached the 2nd round but was then beaten by top seed Marion Bartoli 6-4/6-1.

At the Australian Open she lost in the first round in a very tight three-setter to the French player Virginie Razzano. She has so far won three WTA Titles and 6 ITF Titles and has been runner-up in 3 Top Tier International Tournaments and one Tier 3.

Elena Vesnina has been sponsored by Babolat for her Pure Storm rackets and by Lacoste for her clothing.
