(United States) Biography

Birthdate: 6-April-92
Birthplace: Ellicott City, Maryland, United States
Height: 5 ft 9 in

One of America's leading juniors and brightest hopes for the future is to attend Duke University in North Carolina.

From Ellicott City, Maryland graduated from Laurel Springs School in May 2010 but deferred her decision to go to university to spend the year improving her WTA ranking while playing as an amateur on the USTA pro circuit.

She made the right decision as she went into her first Grand Slam, the 2010 US Open, on a wild card into the main draw ranked at 347 in the world. She beat World ranked 95 Karolina Sprem in straight sets 6-1/6-3 and went on to beat Aravane Rezai in the second round. It was the first time she had beaten a Top 100 and a Top 10 player and the youngster made her mark.

She fell to former number 1 Maria Sharapova in the third round. Sharapova has won the US Open before in 2006 so it would have caused a big upset if she had knocked her out as well.

Beatrice Capra is half Italian, her father Giovanni comes from Monza, and has trained at the Evert Academy, Boca Raton, Florida, which is run by former Champion Chris Evert, and it was the Academy and the USTA that jointly announced Capra's personal decision to attend Duke's University and they are both behind her all the way.

John McEnroe's brother Patrick, who is General Manager of USTA Player Development said the Tennis Association backed her decision to concentrate on her education and feels strongly collegiate tennis can be part of a player's pathway to professional tennis.

Capra, known as "Trice" on the tour joins a number of top US Juniors who played collegiate tennis, including Caroline Price, the Under 18 National Clay Court Champion who played at the University of North Carolina.

In her press release Capra said, "I've always been attracted to Duke because of the high level of tennis players they have been able to produce."

"Not only have the coaches made an impact on the entire team, but they have also helped their players' transition on to the pro tour which really inspires me."

"Whatever I do in life I always strive to be the best, in my opinion I consider Duke to be the best school in the country. It has a balance between high level academics and high level sports, and I believe all the students push each other to be the best they can be."

Beatrice Capra, who was born on April 6th 1992, started playing tennis at the age of 9-years old and she has been coached by Frank Salazar. Off court she loves listening to her music and she says if she had not decided to become a tennis player she would have been a journalist.

Her goal is to reach the top 10 in the world. In under a year she had risen from 347 to a high of 201.
